The technicians will stay in a separate control room to watch a computer monitor record your sleep information.Īfter a full night’s sleep is recorded, the data will be tabulated by our scoring technologist and provided to a physician for interpretation. Once the sleep sensors are applied, you may read or watch TV in bed until you are sleepy, according to your usual routine. Depending on the physician’s orders, patients may be given therapy during the course of the study, which may include medication, oxygen or positive airway pressure therapy delivered through a device called CPAP or BiPAP. The technologist will go over any questions you may have prior to the study. The sleep technologist will review your patient questionnaire and ensure that all the information needed for the test is up-to-date and accurate. Bathrooms/showers are located outside of the patient sleep room. Your sleep room is set up similar to a hotel room, which includes a full-size bed with 2 pillows, a recliner chair, TV/cable/WiFi, personal temperature control unit, bottled water/snacks and personal storage chest. After pregnancy, you will complete a brief survey. We will also collect some blood samples during pregnancy. If you agree to participate in the trial, we will follow you throughout pregnancy and collect data on your prenatal care and delivery. The Maternal Fetal Medicine Units SLEEP Study is a study of the use of CPAP in pregnancy. More research is being done to understand the other possible health benefits of treatment. Weight loss, adjusting sleep positions, and avoiding alcohol and other sedatives also can help. Feeling depressed, anxious, or irritable.Feeling sleepy or falling asleep at the wrong time or place.Feeling tired, drained, or lacking energy.Difficulty falling asleep, frequent awakenings.Frequent or loud snoring, gasping, or snorting sounds.For women, symptoms may be mistaken for depression or other medical conditions. The symptoms of sleep apnea in women may not be the same as those in men. About one out of five women who are overweight or report snoring will test positive for sleep apnea in pregnancy. In obstructive sleep apnea, breathing is abnormal because of narrowing or closure of the throat. In a person with sleep apnea, air movement is periodically diminished or stopped.
